From start to three
Infants’ nervous and muscular systems are certainly yet fully developed. A newborn’s neck, arms, together with legs appear floppy. It is important that your baby includes opportunities to develop muscles in the neck, back, and muscles, as these are the same muscles necessary for crawling.
From six months to 12 months:
Your baby will continue to develop language and motor unit skills. Your infant will most likely enjoy toys and things to do that allow him to move around and make noise. Often children at the infant development stage enjoy playing with pots, pans, hardwood spoons, and plastic bowls. Provide opportunities for your child that will scoot, roll, and crawl along the floor, and engage in ball with your baby. This is also a wonderful time to read visualize books with your child. As reading to your child encourages an appreciation for books and helps to develop early language proficiency. Continue to speak, sing, dance, and play with your baby.
As the infant grows, look for signs as to developing interests as well as abilities that correspond with these child developmental stages. Keep in mind your baby is watching you constantly. He will respond to involvment. The way your infant perceives the world will begin with these quick experiences. Model the behaviors that you value most though providing opportunities for success.
