Childhood obesity is on the rise, and quite frankly, it does not need to become an epidemic. Helping kids lose weight should be a priority for parents. The health problems created by childhood obesity are real issues. Heart disease is one that can be avoided all together. Diabetes is another. Death is one I do not wish to think about.
Be A Positive Role Model
In order to change you kids eating habits you need to change your own. It is not good to be eating junk food and expect your kids to avoid it. They will eat what you eat if you provide a good example for them. The same goes for physical activity. If you are a couch potato then most likely your kids will be also.
Limit the video game playing to an hour. If video gaming is a family sport, invest in fitness games such as the Wii-Fit. This is one way to play together and get some exercise as well.
Make A Gradual Change
To help kids weightloss without a struggle, begin making gradual changes in the families diet. Do not all of a sudden decide to throw everything in the garbage and start forcing vegetables and salad on them. Have a family discussion and decide upon a course of action. If you get the whole family involved and discuss how important healthy eating is for everyone, it will be easier to make the adjustment.
Avoid the fast food scene and pass up the junk food at the grocery store. A few sweets are okay now and then, and the best kind are home made. If you want a snack while watching that movie, low calorie popcorn and fruit are good choices.
Avoid drinking more than one soda pop per day and try to limit what your kids drink as well.
Have A Family Fitness Day
Get active and have some fun. This will not only help your kids lose weight but get yourself in better shape as well. How about getting out those bikes and exploring some trails? Biking is an excellent way to burn calories and explore the world a little. Pack a healthy lunch and make a day of it. Plan other activities as a family. Encourage your kids to join sports in school and help the practice.
